Children in Common Socks

"Children in Common is an information and relief group administered by Adoptions
Together, Inc., an accredited adoption agency that facilitates adoptions domestically and from countries of the former Soviet Union.

Conditions are desperately poor - many orphanages don't even have hot water for baths, indoor temperatures during the winter may hover around 45 Fahrenheit
(that's 7 Celsisus), some workers go for months without being paid, some of the kids are there because, although they do have living parents, those parents literally cannot afford to feed them. Each pair of socks helps."—Elizabeth Durand.

Knitters are encouraged when using this free pattern to knit and donate finished socks to the organization. Finished socks can be sent to me until 3/17/02 (see address at end of pattern). Those will be included in a group photo to be featured in the summer issue of Cast On magazine, along with an article about CIC written by Elizabeth.

After that date, you can mail your sock donations directly to:

Work in k2, p2 rib and k circularly for approximately 2 ". Beginning with Needle 1 and in St st, k around for 1 (2, 3)".

Begin Heel:
NOTE: Heel flap is worked in rows on 14 (16, 18) sts.

You'll now have 10 (12, 12) sts for the heel and will be ready to work a RS row.
